Does Usborne use automated decision-making in its recruitment process?
In short, no we don't.
When we utilise the Applied software, which we use to de-bias the recruitment process, every answer you submit is scored by one of the (human) recruiting team. The recruiting team are almost always made up of a mix of junior and senior staff from the department the role sits in.
We ensure that each answer is individually scored by at least two recruiting team members (more frequently three). The Applied software then shows us those scores and the average scores for each candidate.
We use these averages to further shortlist the applications for the next stage. That is the CV review and scoring, where the same process is undertaken again. This allows us to assess all candidates against the same criteria, with no one individual selecting candidates for interview and no automated decisions being made on our behalf.
